Marble tiles are far denser and durable compared to travertine and limestone tiles. Marble is formed by the metamorphism of limestone and dolomite rocks and has a wide range of colour variations, from whites, reds, browns, beige, black and many other colours. Characteristics found in marble tiles are caused by mineral impurities when the rock is formed. This results in the veining or swirls often found in the tiles.
